The sun has been shining, you’ve been away on holiday and your good intentions and routines have gone out of the window. So how do you reign it all back in when you’ve gone so far off track you can’t even see the road?
How do you summon up the motivation, desire and action needed to get re-started?
It's simple...
You just take the first step
The truth is you’ve never going to feel like it. Whatever it is that’s going to give you the biggest overall improvement in your life whether that’s eating healthy, working out or giving up smoking, the thing that you least want to stop doing is probably THE thing you most need to limit or cut out of your life.
We are all wired to seek easy short-term solutions, the wine, the crisps and the chocolate over the harder longer-term rewards of eating healthy and working out more.
It’s your feelings that get in the way of you taking action. It’s cold, it’s raining I don’t ‘feel’ like going for a walk or getting up early or eating that healthy salad. Once you recognise your feelings are the thing getting in your way then rationalising that is a lot easier.
The truth is you’ve got to let go of what you’re feeling and just do it in the words of NIKE - you’ll feel like it when you do it! If you push yourself to take action your mind will fall in line with your body. We talked about the Mel Robbins 5-second rule during our Self-Sabotage challenge earlier in the year in my Lifestyle 100 group, if you missed that it’s in the guides section go back and revisit that series you can join the group here.
Mel Robbins 5 second rule is the perfect way to push yourself into action, the alarm goes off, you count backwards from 5 4 3 2 1 and you move. You have to move as your brain takes about 5 seconds before it starts to talk you out of whatever it is you are trying to avoid, whether that’s getting out of bed, hitting the gym, going for a walk, or choosing the salad over the pizza. Use this fantastic tool to move yourself into action today.
Remember you are always ONE decision away just one from a completely new life.
So today I want you to consider what you really want. If you have fallen off your plan, if you’ve put weight back on or lost your way with your good intentions. Just stop take a breath and write down what you really want. Why do you really want to lose the weight write your answers down then look at them and ask yourself ‘and why is that important to me?’ Keep writing until you get to something that really moves you.
Motivation doesn’t come from someone else it’s deep inside you, You’ve just got to dig down to find it then remind yourself everyday of those key reasons you want that version of you to win. If you need help with finding that motivation and staying consistent then I’m here for you as your one-to-one diet consultant and coach. My role is to put your journey front and centre and keep you eyes on the road ahead.
