The 5 Habits That Have Helped Me Stay 4 Stone Lighter for 25 Years
When I was 30 years old, I was four stone heavier than I am today and I felt every pound of it. Not just physically, but emotionally too. My confidence was low, my energy was drained, and I didn’t feel like me anymore.
When I finally lost the weight, I made a vow to myself: never go back. The boost in energy, health, and self-esteem was life-changing and I knew I never wanted to lose that.
But here’s the truth most people don’t see:
Even now, I battle with my weight every single day.
Staying on track isn’t about perfection - it’s about consistency. And these five habits are what I’ve done on repeat, day in, day out, to stay 4 stone lighter for more than 25 years.
1. Be Calorie Aware
I don’t meticulously log every bite anymore, but I know my portions and calorie ranges inside out. Years of practice taught me to recognise what’s in my meals.
Tip: Try tracking your food for a week. You’ll be amazed at what you learn.
2. Balance Out the Indulgences
When life throws cake at you (and it will!), enjoy it. But I always follow up with a day or two of lighter eating.
Why it works: It stops one indulgence from turning into a slippery slope. Small course corrections keep you steady.
3. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Water is my best friend. It helps me stay full, improves digestion and keeps everything running smoothly, including my mindset.
Try this: Keep a bottle with you at all times and aim to sip consistently throughout the day.
4. Move Your Body
Exercise is non-negotiable for me. Not for weight loss, but for strength, mood, and longevity. It keeps me sharp, mobile, and feeling strong and of course maintenance.
Key reminder: You don’t need the gym. Walking, dancing, stretching, movement is what matters.
5. Weigh In Weekly
Whether I’ve had a great week or a rocky one, I face the scales. Ignoring the number never helped anyone.
Think of it as: A check-in, not a judgement. It gives you the chance to adjust before things snowball.
These aren’t fancy tricks or quick fixes just simple, sustainable habits that have served me for decades.
If you’d like help building your own toolkit to not only lose weight but keep it off, I’m here.
