In his book atomic habits James Clear talks about the current trajectory we are on - a trajectory that is taking us slowly in one direction either positively or negatively every day.
Everyday the choices that we make are casting a vote for the kind of person that we want to become. The challenge is making those choices consistently and being aware of the choices we are choosing - making sure they are 1% better than they usually are.
It’s very easy to make a one-off bad choice and think that it doesn’t matter - it’s not the one hamburger or the one glass of wine that makes us obese.
Similarly it’s not the one workout that will make us fit or the one walk where we hit 10,000 steps. It’s taking the action every day to become more active over time that will have the positive effect.
It’s the compounding effect of those little choices that take us down a pathway positively or negatively.
So your challenge for this week is to choose just one thing one small choice that you can make every day that will make a positive difference - these might be such things as going for a walk at lunchtime for half an hour or at the end of the day - choosing not to eat toast with butter and having a healthier breakfast maybe eggs, porridge or something that’s going to give you a long burst of energy over a prolonged period of time rather than a short burst of energy - it could be taking your supplements - it could be drinking 2 L of water every day - just choose one really small choice that if you built into a daily habit it would have a positive effect on your current trajectory.
By getting used to making small positive habits they can become part of your identity longer term improvements can only be temporary until they become part of who you are so every action you take is a vote for the type of person you want to become.
A habit must be established before it can be improved you need to master the art of showing up this week so let us know below what are you going to do this week how are you going to show up and cast a vote for the person you want to become?
