I want to introduce you to Shakti, because her journey is genuinely one of the most inspiring I’ve worked with. She travels from Dartington every week by public transport, rarely missing a session and her commitment, honesty, and determination are inspiring to all of us and even more remarkable, is that she is registered blind.
Weight Loss at 60: Shakti’s 1:1 Diet Journey — Regaining Mobility, Confidence, and Control
For many women approaching 60, weight gain isn’t just about clothes feeling tight — it affects mobility, breathing, confidence, and quality of life.
Shakti’s story is proof that meaningful change is possible at any age, with the right support.
“I’d Reached the Highest Weight of My Life”
Last year, Shakti reached 12 stone 2 lbs — the heaviest she had ever been.
At just 5 ft 2.5 inches, and small-framed, that weight sat heavily around her middle. It wasn’t “just a couple of stone.” On her build, it changed everything.
The impact was daily and exhausting:
- walking even on flat ground left her breathless
- mobility and agility were severely reduced
- everyday tasks felt overwhelming
Previous weight loss attempts had resulted in only a few pounds lost — lasting just weeks. Each time she tried, she put in effort, only to feel disappointed and frustrated when nothing truly shifted.
Eventually, she stopped believing it would work at all.
The Quiet Wake-Up Call
Shakti had thought about losing weight for years, but she wasn’t just hesitant — she doubted it would make any difference.
“Was it worth putting in the effort and commitment, only to be disappointed again?”
What changed wasn’t pressure — it was trust.
Knowing Alex gave her the courage to try.
A defining moment came before a job interview. Shakti bought a pair of trousers in size 14 — a size she had vowed she would never buy — but at the time, it felt necessary.
At home, despite owning plenty of clothes, only three or four outfits actually fit.
She realised she had completely given up on herself — in rebellion against years of criticism, judgment, rejection, and bullying. Things had spiralled beyond manageable.
This wasn’t about weight anymore.
It was about taking her life back.

Before the 1:1 Diet: Comfort Eating and Large Portions
Shakti’s eating pattern will feel very familiar to many women:
- Breakfasts of muesli, granola or porridge
- Regular meal deals at lunch — sandwiches, crisps, chocolate, drinks
- Evening comfort eating while watching YouTube
- Crisps, chocolate, alcohol on difficult days
- Large evening portions with carbs and pudding
It wasn’t chaos — but emotional eating, portion size, and habit stacking quietly added up.
Life Now: Structure, Planning, and Awareness
Today, Shakti’s relationship with food is completely different.
- Portions are consciously smaller
- Crisps and chocolate are rare
- Meal deals are no longer routine
- Products are planned weekly and taken when travelling
- Social meals are chosen mindfully
- Hydration is improving — thirst checked before hunger
This isn’t restriction.
It’s control. Awareness. Confidence.
Why the 1:1 Diet Worked for Shakti
Shakti chose the 1:1 Diet because it was something new — and because weekly individual weigh-ins offered something she’d never truly had before.
What kept her consistent:
- visible results almost every week
- a safe space to admit setbacks
- problem-solving instead of shame
- accountability without fear
She is now 44 lbs down, sitting at 8 stone 10 lbs (almost at goal) — the lightest she’s been in decades.
She’s back in size 12, sometimes size 10, depending on the brand.
Those size 14 interview trousers?
She’s worn them twice — and now they won’t stay up over her hips. She’ll need to buy a smaller pair for future interviews.
She’s also gone from bra size 36D to 34C — another sign of how much her body composition has changed.
Support That Made the Difference
Weekly check-ins and detailed weigh-ins kept Shakti focused.
Alex’s approach — kind, non-judgmental, supportive — allowed trust to grow.
Support didn’t just happen one-to-one, but through the WhatsApp group, daily encouragement, and shared understanding.
“I’ve developed absolute trust — which is very rare for me.”
Shakti’s Results So Far
- Total weight loss: 44 lb
- Body fat: ↓ 7%
- BMI: from borderline obese to a healthy 23
- Visceral fat: ↓ 2 points
- Metabolic age: 55 → 44
On a petite 5 ft 2.5 in frame, losing nearly three and a half stone has transformed her shape, mobility, and health markers.
Her skin is softer, less dry — despite barely using moisturiser. Another unexpected bonus.

The Real Transformation: Mobility, Confidence, Life
Physically, Shakti can now:
- walk freely without breathlessness
- complete everyday tasks with ease
- attend three yoga classes a week
- move with confidence and agility
She jokes that she’s reverse-aged by 30 years — and honestly, it shows.
Mentally and emotionally:
- she believes again
- she feels proud — and surprised by herself
- confidence has returned
- control over her life is being restored
And crucially, she knows maintenance support continues — breaking the cycle that failed her before.
